About the producer
Coffee in Yemen dates back as far as the 6th century when, as legend has it, a Sufi monk discovered a magical sleep-defying drink which eventually spread across the middle east and then the world. While there are differing accounts of how coffee originally came to be, it is generally agreed that Yemen was the first place to export this black “wine”. All modern arabica coffee is believed to come from this original genetic line and it is still grown near the old growth forests in the high terraces of Bany Matar (hence the name Matari) and exported from the port city of Al-Mahka or 'Mocha'. It has a full, luscious, "winey" body, spiced fruit undertones and juicy acidity.
